We are based in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire with operations in Plymouth, Tewkesbury and Wigan. The Company is a leading distributor of cable accessories in the UK focused on supplying to Panel Builders, OEMS and Electrical Contractors either directly or via wholesalers.

About the Purchasing Assistant Role:
Providing our customers with quality products is at the heart of what we do. As Purchasing Assistant you will play an essential role in controlling and planning stock levels. You will be responsible for sourcing our wide range of cable accessories and solutions from suppliers worldwide. Your goal will be to ensure the products supplied by our supply chain partners are to the agreed specifications and negotiate the best price for our customers.
+ Processing, monitoring, forecasting, planning and scheduling stock requirements including progressing orders by telephone, email and fax
+ Communicating with UK and overseas suppliers by telephone and email, including processing orders, delivery times and pricing issues
+ Negotiating with suppliers and freight companies in the UK and overseas
+ Identifying and sourcing products needed to fulfil back to back requirements
+ Calculating and record selling prices for new enquiries
+ Examining and holding suppliers answerable for stock delays, shortages/over’s and stock availability
+ Obtaining supplier approval in accordance with ISO 9001 and other applicable Quality Standards e.g. ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
+ Responsible for reviewing levels of current stock and sourcing cable accessories
+ Keeping colleagues informed of delivery times for stock ordered
+ Liaising with sales/marketing/warehouse regarding deliveries and accounts department on invoice/purchase queries
+ Maintaining close contact and support for the sales team, in order to meet the needs of our customers
What will make a successful candidate for this role?
+ Substantial experience in a purchasing or buyer role (buying in a similar industry would be a strong advantage)
+ Good commercial awareness and business acumen with proven ability to negotiate, recognise and influence opportunities
+ Experience in stock monitoring, planning and forecasting
+ Strong written and oral communication skills and numerical skills
+ Proficient using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook) and experience of using databases / ERP systems
+ Ability to work to tight deadlines and multi-task under pressure
+ Self-motivated with a willingness to learn our products through the training we provide and through self-development
+ Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
